Regulatory Context

FOG Compliance in Michigan

Michigan food service establishments must comply with FOG pretreatment rules under the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and local utilities. Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, Grand Rapids DPW, and Lansing Wastewater Utility maintain FOG programs with interceptor requirements, maintenance schedules, and manifest retention. Given Michigan's extensive Great Lakes shoreline, FOG-related sewer overflows carry heightened environmental consequences.
