Regulatory Context

FOG Compliance in Virginia

Virginia food service operators must comply with FOG pretreatment regulations under the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and local utilities. Fairfax Water/Fairfax County Sewer, HRSD (Hampton Roads Sanitation District), Richmond Department of Public Utilities, and Virginia Beach Public Utilities operate active FOG programs. Requirements include interceptor installation, pumping schedules (typically every 90 days), certified hauler manifests, and three-year record retention. Virginia's Chesapeake Bay cleanup commitments make FOG compliance especially important for the region's largest utilities.
