Reviewed August 16, 2026. There is no single universal “grease trap company certification” that proves a business may perform every cleaning, pumping, hauling, plumbing, repair, installation, or safety task in every jurisdiction.
Instead of asking only whether a company is certified, identify the work and verify the current credential or record that actually applies.
Business licences and local approvals
A general business licence may authorize a company to operate in a location, but it does not necessarily cover regulated waste transport, plumbing, environmental work, or a specific vehicle. The U.S. Small Business Administration notes that licence and permit requirements depend on the business activity and location.
Waste transporter registrations and permits
Some wastewater, state, provincial, or municipal programs register transporters, vehicles, or receiving activities and prescribe manifests or service records. These are local or regional controls, not one national grease-trap credential. Verify the business and vehicle where the authority provides a current register.
Plumbing and skilled-trade credentials
Piping, installation, repair, and other regulated trade work may require a licensed plumber, compulsory-trade status, permits, or inspections. Ontario, for example, now uses Skilled Trades Ontario and its Public Register rather than its previous trades authority.
Safety and manufacturer training
Training can be important for workplace hazards, confined spaces, equipment, vehicles, and site procedures. Manufacturer training or an association certificate may demonstrate instruction in a particular product or program, but it is not automatically a government licence and may not authorize transport, plumbing, or disposal.
A practical verification request
Ask the provider to list, in writing, the legal business name, who performs each task, the job-specific licence or registration and issuing authority, the vehicle or transporter authorization where applicable, the service record supplied, and any work referred to another trade. Then verify the material items directly.

Is there an EPA grease trap company certification?
The EPA sources reviewed for this guide do not establish a nationwide company certification for all grease trap work. Local wastewater, waste, business, and trade requirements still apply.
Is a waste-hauler permit the same as a plumbing licence?
No. Waste transport and plumbing are different activities. One company may hold both types of authorization, but each should be checked for the work and location.
Does manufacturer training replace a licence?
